What is an English Cream Dachshund?

Many of you have been writing me asking about what it means to be an English cream dachshund, and so I have done some research on it. There is much conflicting information out there, so I will do my best. If anyone knows of any websites that explain this better, please pass them along to me! This is what I have found on the subject:

English cream dachshunds originated in England. England did not have the ee creams, so it referred to only the shaded creams (see my post on shaded vs ee cream dachshunds). When these English cream dachshunds came to the United States, they were bred with a variety of cream dachshunds here. In the U.S. the word “English” (in English cream) does not refer to a color, but instead it means that the dachshund has an ancestor within 4 generations that came from the UK. Hence, a true English cream dachshund refers to a cream dachshund that has an ancestor from the UK.

Both Chloe and Rhiannon are English cream dachshunds. Below is a photo of Sachre Torte, who is from the UK and is an ancestor of Chloe’s.

Rhiannon also has an ancestor from the UK, Pattihund Ice Cool Magic.

Both images came from a search in pawvillage.com. As you can see some dogs in the database have more information listed on them than others. Chloe and Rhiannon are not in the database yet, as I still need to add them.
